Expected Results
In order to reach its ambitious scientific and technological objectives, advanced research is required in the LivingKnowledge project. This includes research in the following areas:
-
extraction of facts and entities from web pages and documents; opinion mining; integration of related and complementary knowledge fragments obtained from different sources;
-
understanding the interdisciplinary foundations of diversity and bias expressed in text and multimedia; analysing ideological positions in content sources through text and multi-modal analysis, analysing provenance and lineage in such a way as to provide sufficient context and hints about evolution of knowledge;
-
analysis of the evolution of classification patterns and hierarchies; opinion evolution; diversity-aware knowledge representation; algorithms for taking evolution of knowledge into account for retrieval and clustering of information;
-
information aggregation and summarisation; switching from document search to retrieval of factual knowledge, providing factual answers together with supporting documents; enabling searches with reference to the past, present and/or future; clustering of search results based on diversity / viewpoints; ranking of search results not only on popularity, but also on diversity and coverage of opinion.
